But how? It starts with mastering the fundamentals.

What is SEO and Why is so important

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of improving a website, so that it ranks higher in search engine results, especially on platforms like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.

It is so important because it makes your website more appealing to both search engines and users, ultimately driving more organic (unpaid) traffic. SEO involves various techniques like keyword research, on-page optimization, off-page optimization (like link building), and technical SEO to improve your site's overall performance and accessibility on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Which are the main SEO Categories

The better your SEO, the higher your visibility, and the more organic (free) traffic you can get. In order to achieve a better place on rankings, seo experts implement techniques related to the following main SEO categories:
Keyword Research, Content Strategy, Technical SEO,
User Experience (UX), On-Page SEO, Off-Page SEO

SEO is the art and science of persuading search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo, to recommend your content to their users as the best solution to their problem.

How Google create SERPs

How Search engine algorithms work?

Crawling

First, search engines use bots to crawl the internet. These bots review the code and content for every URL (Uniform Resource Locator) online. URLs are like a street address for the internet. Each webpage has a unique URL to help people locate the page. These bots are constantly discovering links through the crawling process, ensuring search results are relevant and timely.

Indexing

Next, the content found during crawling is indexed or stored. A link must be indexed to be discoverable by search engines. Once a search engine crawls your web page (visits and reads it), the next step is indexing, where your page is analyzed, categorized, and stored in the search engine’s vast database. Think of indexing like placing a book in a digital library. If it’s not indexed, nobody can “check it out” through search.

Answering

Finally, search engines rank and display the best content culled from the database to answer a query. Results, by default, are orderedfrom most relevant to least. Search engines consider hundreds of factors, like relevance, quality, and user intent—when choosing which pages to show first. This final step is what users see: the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), where strong SEO makes the difference between visibility and invisibility.

Search Engines Marketing

In every query you perform, Search engine algorithms power complex systems, that create SERPs, containing paid and free links

Each SERP is based on many things...

Each Search Engine Results Page (SERP) provides various links, towards different webpages. Those SERPs are based on a secret process, that takes into account a combination of weighted factors (more than 200+), like the search terms used, the relevance and quality of the content, and the website’s usability.

Keep in mind that, not all factors have the same value!
Over time, marketers realized optimizing webpages to perform well in these ranking systems was an inexpensive, effective way to drive traffic to a company’s website. The field of search marketing is the result.

The two (2) major types of Internet Marketing

Search Engine Marketing (SEM):
Paid optimization tactics, like pay-per-click, appear as advertisements on search engine results pages (SERPs). These paid ads are typically displayed on the top of a SERP or in a sidebar; advertisers are charged a fee when an internet user clicks the displayed link.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
SEO strategies seek to boost a website’s organic (non-paid) rank on search engine results pages (SERPs). The purpose of SEO is to increase the visibility of your website and drive more traffic to your website. With the rise of AI, I shoulsd mention another term, the GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).
"GEO" can refer to several things, but most commonly it means Generative Engine Optimization. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) focuses on making your content appear in AI-generated search results, like those from ChatGPT or Google's SGE. It is based on traditional SEO tactics and strategies. Search engines, like ChatGPT, consult the top results of Bing SERPs. This means, that if you want to be ahead of your competitors, and show up in AI results Overview, you must optimize your website!

Why SEO is important for your business

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is important because it directly affects how easily people can find your website. That determines your visibility, credibility, traffic, and ultimately revenue or influence online.

With over 1 billion active websites in existence, it’s easy to get lost in the void. Even if your site is indexed, your target audience is unlikely to find it without some SEO efforts. That means missing out on attracting customers, increasing profits, and growing your business. Let’s take a look at some more benefits of improving your SEO game.

Here's why SEO matters:

Most online experiences begin with a search Organic traffic is free and consistent People trust organic results more than ads It drives high-quality, intent-driven traffic It builds authority and credibility It improves overall UX (User Experience) Your competitors are doing it SEO offers valuable insights

Some facts and advice about implementing SEO in your webpages, by the Best SEO in Athens Greece

Some facts about implementing SEO in your pages

Over 90% of online journeys start with a search engine like Google. If you're not visible there, you're practically invisible online. Unlike paid ads, SEO traffic doesn’t cost you per click. Once your site ranks, it can bring you visitors 24/7 without ongoing ad spend. Users tend to skip ads and click on organic results, because they see them as more trustworthy and relevant. SEO targets users, who are already searching for what you offer, whether it’s a product, service, or information. That means better conversion potential.

Good SEO includes high-quality content, backlinks, technical optimization, and user experience ; all of which contribute to building your brand’s trust with both users and Google. Google rewards fast, mobile-friendly, well-structured sites. That improves how users experience your website — leading to longer visits and more engagement. If you’re not doing SEO, your competitors are likely taking your potential customers, simply because they appear before you in search. From tools like Google Search Console or Analytics, SEO shows you what your audience is looking for, where they come from, and how they interact with your site.

Search engines use sophisticated technology to elevate high-quality online content and ferret out suspicious or questionable sites. Bots aren’t just looking for keywords; they seek organized, quality content and a positive user experience. (Yes, bots have been trained to know a good UX, when they see one!)

What does this mean? A website that just repeats the phrase “green sweaters” over and over probably won’t come up in your results for a search of green sweaters. Instead, you’re likely to be connected to a reputable, well-built shopping site that offers green sweaters among their goods.

Having a highly ranked website lets people know that the site is credible, safe to visit, and likely has the answer to whatever it is they’re seeking.

With enough time and training, anyone can optimize a website for search. And other than the ongoing optimization process, there’s no additional cost associated with organic searches. Meanwhile, the potential payout from snagging a highly coveted top-three spot can be substantial in terms of how customers find your business.

Remember, roughly 60% of search engine users don’t look beyond the top three results. Great SEO pushes your website higher on the search result page, where users are most likely to click. A highly ranked page for a common search term can exponentially increase click-through rates.
Moreover, the incoming traffic will be of higher quality because the search results were relevant. That means the people directed to your site from search engine results will likely find what they’re looking for there.

SEO makes a better Internet for everyone

Designed with the users in mind, today’s search engines prioritize a positive user experience and high-quality content. Search engine traffic is so coveted, that website owners are quick to appeal to the algorithm, by making their websites more user-friendly.
That increases the quality of the internet overall.
